29^th May saw the last of our Community Education Series events, finishing off in Brisbane, today we are providing a wrap up on the entire series and announcing the events lucky prize winners! Throughout the series, we focused on the crucial areas of the new Legislation Changes – Pets, Parking, Smoking and Scheme Termination, our wrap ups provide an insight into the key changes and what each region thinks about the changes.

Our star guest speakers shone through the events and were well received by all in attendance. The audience received some invaluable advice that Body Corporates would normally pay thousands for. Having representatives from different legal firms provided the audiences with their perspectives into the previous laws in place, the subsequent changes and challenges that need to be considered.

Six Archers the Strata Professionals Partners were also on stage at each event, Joel McBride in Airlie Beach, Grant Mifsud on the Sunshine Coast, Adam Ford on the Gold Coast, Frank Griesau in Townsville, Stephen McCulloch in Cairns and Wayne Hewitt in Brisbane. They elaborated on the current state of play from their real-life experiences and the disputes that commonly arise.

We were thrilled to have an incredible panel of presenters and a wide range of exhibitor partners which delivered good attendance at all 6 locations. Overall, we saw over 460 attendees demonstrating the importance of strata community education.

It was also great to see that there were multiple occasions where the attendee’s first indicated that they believed the presentations expanded their knowledge and understanding of the topic. For us here at Smart Strata, that is the best feedback that we can receive, being able to provide the Strata community with the education to make informed and considered decisions is our ultimate objective.

The topics at each event explained 3 key points which were elaborated on by our speakers and answered 3 key questions on each of the 4 topics for Legislation Changes – Pets, Parking, Smoking and Scheme Termination.

Each topic explained:

1. What laws were in place and what’s since changed?
2. The current state of play dealing with each of these topics.
3. Some of the challenges with the new laws and how we can overcome these.

To gauge opinions, the audience were surveyed across all 6 regions on the 4 topics. The 4 questions asked were;

1. Do you believe the new pet laws are fair and reduce disputes?
2. Are you confident the new towing laws will reduce illegal parking?
3. Will the new smoking laws deter complaints arising from smoke drift?
4. Do you think the new scheme termination provisions will be useful to your body corporate?
